Abstract

With the need of appropriate analytical methods to calculate the mechanical constraints to be respected in the pre dimensioning of high speed electrical machines, this paper proposes a comparison of two analytical methods for calculating the maximum mechanical stress (MMS) in the rotor of high speed assisted synchronous reluctance machines (ASRM): the beam theory method (BTM), and the equivalent ring method (ERM). MMS at critical regions of the rotor of ASRM were calculated for different rotating speed and rotor dimensions. By adopting the concept of stress concentration, both methods are compared with the results issued from finite element analyses (FEA).
